TPD retraining led to a top job

As a trained industrial mechanic, Stefan had been very successful in his profession for more than 26 years. A shoulder operation in 2022 forced him to change his career path. That is how he came to the BFW Nuremberg in 2023 to retrain as a Technical Product Designer (TPD). He would never have thought that his new profession would suit him so well.

When you enjoy your job and everything fits at the company, it is not easy when things cannot continue that way. For health reasons, Stefan had to retrain, and during his vocational rehabilitation he chose a profession from the same field. This meant he could bring his experience and knowledge into the retraining very well.

He completed the 12-week in-company phase with his current employer, Inka System GmbH in Heiligenstadt, in the design department – and realised back then:“This is it!”The company was very satisfied too. At the final review after the three months, he was immediately offered a job as a design engineer.

At his new workplace he has a great team around him and, with special machine building, a really exciting field of work. He had not expected that he would enjoy creative work so much:

“Bringing my own ideas into the design – that’s great!”, he says happily.
